BACKGROUND 

 

ATMA IS THE BRAND OF FRENCH CERAMIST MARIE MARTIN. FOR THE RELEASE OF HER FIRST "COCOON" COLLECTION, SHE NEEDED SUPPORT WITH THE BRAND'S VISUAL DIRECTION. I WAS IN CHARGE OF DEVELOPING THE BRAND'S VISUAL IDENTITY, PHOTOGRAPHY AND DIGITAL PRESENCE.

APPROACH 

 

THE CREATIVE DIRECTION IS BASED ON THE FOLLOWING PRINCIPLES:

 

HANDMADE | THE WHOLE PROCESS OF MAKING CERAMICS IS VERY TACTILE WITH NATURAL MATERIAL AND HANDCRAFT TECHNIQUES. THEREFORE ALL VISUAL ELEMENTS SHOULD FEEL TANGIBLE AND PHYSICAL AS OPPOSED TO DIGITAL. 

 

JUXTAPOSITION / BALANCE | JUXTAPOSITION OF MATERIALS, FORMS AND COLORS. CLASSICAL / CONTEMPORARY BALANCE.

TIMELESS | A MINIMAL BRANDING WILL BE TIMELESS. COLLECTIONS CAN HAVE A BOLDER PERSONALITY.

HAND CUT SHAPES | FORMS SHOULD APPEAR FREE HANDED CUT AS IF PAPER WAS CUT WITH SCISORS OR TORNED.

LINE | THE LINE REPRESENT THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE MATERIAL USED IN THE PRODUCTS, BUT ALSO SYMBOLIZES TIME. MARIE'S MOTTO BEING "DISCONNECT, RELAX, RECHARGE, MAKE TIME".

TO BRING PERSONALITY TO THE BRAND AND AMONGST PHOTOGRAPHY AND INFORMATION, WE WILL INTRODUCE GRAPHIC ELEMENTS WITH THE FOLLOWING RULES.

COLORS 

 

THE COLORS WERE HAND-PICKED IN THE PHOTOGRAPHY FROM THE COLLECTION. THE DARK BLUE IS USED INSTEAD OF BLACK, THE EMERALD REPRESENT PLANTS AND NATURE, AND THE OFF-WHITE IS THE COLOR OF THE CLEAR CERAMICS AND USED INSTEAD OF WHITE.

IN ORDER TO SHOW THE TRANSITION FROM A PASSION TO AN ESTABLISHED BRAND, WE DECIDED TO SIMPLIFY ATELIER MARTIN TO ATMA, GIVING IT AN IMPACTFUL YET SOFT SONORITY, AND A SOLID VISUAL BALANCE.
