Branding, photography and website for ATMA Ceramics.
ATMA is the practice of French ceramist Marie Martin, based in Spain. Marie asked Wookmama to create a visual system and identity for her brand Atelier Martin with the intent to create a departure from a longtime hobby practice to an established brand.
Marie studied ceramic techniques and philosophy from Chinese masters while living in China and these influences are perceptible in her work. Time lies at the heart of ATMA. “Disconnect, relax, recharge, MAKE TIME” is Marie’s moto.
The design work is based on visual translations of these principles: All graphic elements are designed with a tangible, man-made execution. Therefore there are no flat color but photographed surfaces with grain, no perfect shapes in the website design but hand-cut shapes. A string that not only represents the sewing work of the products, but also “Le fil du temps”, the string of time is linking all sections of the website or packaging together. The color palette was carefully built from the colors emitted by the ceramics at all stages of the process, as well as the hand-dying that Marie applies to the cotton ropes.
The photography is translating the notion of time with the natural lighting of the lifestyle shots, or nature-mortes scenes freezing time.
To have a more impactful and unique name we suggested a shift from Atelier Martin to ATMA.
